Old Hollywood

Above: The partial set from Citizen Kane consists of a foreground doorway and the butler (Paul Stewart), while Kane (Orson Welles) stands on a distant soundstage floor.
Below: The final, deep-focus image was completed with a matte painting by Chesley Bonestell. The live-action elements of the doorway in the foreground and Kane in the background were optically composited with a painted hallway, columns, and floor. The distant reflection of Kane on the floor was painted as well.

Fragments

I've had the privilege of again working with one of my favorites, Maryse Alberti, for a few days operating on "Fragments", a Marilyn Monroe documentary in production right now. I am so into it. The Director, Liz Garbus, and the production are awesome, great to work with AND the format of the project is something I dig a lot! I've been able to watch these master actors deliver wonderful monologues that literally give you goosebumps. And that is all I can say.  It never gets old to be a part of a project that fascinates you (I mean, HOW captivating IS Marilyn Monroe?!) with people you respect. I'm tickled pink yet again as my Grandma would say.

Annie Oakley

A gun showman sauntered into town. The towns people said, "We've got someone who can outshoot you. A 15 year old girl named Annie." The gun showman lost the $100 bet and was so smitten he married the girl a year later. That's my kind of love story. PS that's him in the film.

Beauty is Embarrassing

I've been reading the entirety of Patti Smith's "Just Kids" and although from different worlds and different eras this films' trailer (and I assume and hope the film itself) leaves you with a sense of hunger and desire and a world of possibilities that is lovely, refreshing, and exciting.
